trash vortex

I’ve been doing some internet research on the Northern Gyre of the Pacific Ocean- loving nicknamed the Eastern Garbage Patch or Pacific Trash Vortex ( “a spot where currents spin and cycle, churning up tons of plastic into a giant pool of chemical soup, flecked with bits and whole chunks of refuse that cannot biodegrade” ). Watched an AMAZING documentary on this on vbs.tv – an independent news agency out of brooklyn, NY.

Watch here.

It’s not just that this plastic trash exists, it’s that there is just so much fucking plastic everywhere. Looking around our apartment, at all the plastic shit around, and how little of it actually needs to be plastic, and how little of it a person actually even needs to possess. Anyway, so there’s no point really in me repeating what’s in the documentary, so just watch it.

I’ve been thinking of doing some prints about the trash vortex, about the reproductive hazards that trash ingested to our ecosystem generates, about stuff like that. Have been collecting some images online to work with today.
